Kapu Wedding Rituals: Pure and Holy

Wedding in Indian culture holds a great significance since ancient times. Eligible bachelors start searching their life partner when they attain marriageable age. Muhurtam
It actually belongs to fix the wedding date by the parents or elders after taking a grant from the family priest at first. This basically means the wedding date is fixed after matching the horoscopes of the bride or groom. The date of the wedding usually fix in any month except for the months of Aashad, Bhadrapad, and Shunya.

Pendikoothuru or Haldi Ceremony
The importance of haldi ceremony in kapu wedding is considered the main to beautify the Kapu brides look. The paste of oil and turmeric is applied to the bride hands and body. After that, she needs to go for holy bath and wear new outfit.

Snathakam
In this ritual, the groom needs to wear a holy thread which marks that he is becoming a married man soon.

Kashi Yatra
To add more fun and laughter in the wedding ceremony, this ritual begins to perform as contrast to other rituals. The groom performs this ritual alone without the help of others. The groom has to act like he is not actually ready for taking the bride responsibility and wants to left for Kashi Yatra. After that, the bride’s father or maternal uncle stop him and request him to abide by his marriage responsibility.

Madhuparkam
The bride and the groom have to wear a new outfit where the bride dress up in a cotton saree along with a red border and the groom in white dhoti. The grouping of the red and white signifies the strength and purity.

Kanyadaan Akshata
This ritual attached with emotional feelings where the father of the bride give her hand to the groom hand, requesting for him to accept his daughter as an equal life partner. After that, both the bride and the groom need to swap garlands of flower and the friends spray yellow colored flower on the couple.

Windup: Wedding is a unity of two people and the beauty of the kapu matrimony lies in its rituals and customs. Thus, traditional rituals and customs make the kapu wedding unique from other wedding rituals.
